APPLIED STUDY

There is no syllabus of required pieces for applied study. Although there are flexible repertoire guidelines, emphasis is on performance development, rather than rigid repertoire requirements. At the undergraduate level, emphasis is placed on how music is successfully studied and performed before beginning the study of serious repertoire. At the completion of study, students will be expected to have achieved a successful integration of responsive technique and musical thought in performance of the concert literature. The emphasis at the graduate level is on repertoire development. See the Guide to the Applied Levels for more details.
